Red Room Reeves and Curator
My voice cracks with each moment of stage time, even to this day. It started with an overwhelming sense of nervousness, panic, and what could be considered a mini stroke. Today, however, after almost a decade of opportunities to speak, share, and be heard, my voice cracks out of disbelief. My Red Room adventures were scattered across a non-linear path, as a monthly volunteer, to the host of an open mic, to a curator of a medium sized not-for-profit in the heart of Taipei city, within the walls of an old Air Force base. None of this was planned, but every random, and wild sounding idea was embraced and attempted, in some way shape or form. My main takeaway from my time with the ever-expanding Red Room community, is that intimacy, and a warm sense of community is something that is very often taken for granted, and unfortunately doesn’t exist in everyone’s upbringing. Be you an oddball, eccentric, plain, or outlandishly normal homo sapien.
The Red Room is for the righteously risqué, the ridiculously radical, the rebellious and rigid alike. In the coming month, I will be taking a leap of faith towards something different , and I am ready to jump in with both feet, and get wet for the chance to belong, somewhere new, anywhere vibrant. If I don’t find it soon enough, I implore you to find me, and you’ll know where it is, because it will be called ….
The Sapphire Space.
Until we are brought together again, relishing in the culture of listening, hear my whisper, I love you Red Roomers.

Stage Time and Juice’s Children’s Summer Theater and Arts Camp 2019
Spotlight on Empress:
What does Empress love about the performing arts?
When I was in elementary school, I remember creating skits for the school talent show with my fellow Girl Scouts troop member, Becky Cox. It was such a thrill to hear our classmates laughing out loud at scenes we created. When I was in high school, I remember the director of the school musical, Mrs. Cindy Quinn, giving me a role in the upcoming all-female cast of “The Quilters.” It was such an empowering experience that I would go on to perform as part of the Jazz Singers, Chamber Singers, and other school plays (such as collaborations between music teacher, Kathy White, and theatre director, Michael Kane, in the school musicals: Little Shop of Horrors and Alice in Wonderland). I took a long hiatus after being cast in a leading character in the college production “State of Confucian” because my parents threatened to stop paying for my college tuition if I didn’t stop indulging my passion for the performing arts.
The camp runs from Tues. July 16 – Fri. July 19, 2019, with a performance on Sat. July 20 at 2:30pm.

calloused collisions plummet pigments of rhythmic rainbows
famous chains of digital remains come claim the young folks
snatched ‘n’ wrapped in hashtags, electric madness breeds fire
seeding teens with iPhone greed, bleeding blind ‘n’ wired
i’m tired of tryin’ to bend tree bark around their tender souls
show them a world where spirit breathes with maple trees ‘n’ oaks
i’ve noticed moments of copious noise erupt during peace
‘n’ when the streams sing their melody, in goes their earpiece
a serious sickness on the psyche, has trapped the young minds
when ultimate beauty truly brews, their talkin’ ’bout Facebook ‘likes’
all this is a sign for the reckoning, where technology has claimed its toll
‘n’ as i push my pen in the direction of change, this new age is painful
how could we just shame nature’s name, not give her the love she deserves
heads down in smiley faces ‘n’ frowns, such a sucked ‘n’ plugged in herd
stern words won’t move their fingers away, from the hypnotizing screen
even when we walk immersed in, the forest’s early autumn green
i’ve seen with my eyes the next generation, who shriek at gentle bugs
who just want to text ‘n’ squish insects, who refuse to be unplugged
i’ve been stung by a juggernaut phenomenon, wrecked by a truth
that in this battle there’s no way to handle this careless cellphone abuse
i will always choose to close my eyes, ‘n’ dream in the silence of the wood
‘n’ open my sight to the constellations as a real human should
i shall root my words into humanity, ‘n’ stand one with this earth
‘n’ leak all of my will in ink, ‘n’ be a part of our world’s rebirth…
it’s time.
to go.
to work…
