About this Event

Taiwan is experiencing one of its worst droughts in history, so there couldn’t a better time for an Earth Day celebration. In support of this year’s global Earth Day theme – Restore Our Earth – Red Room will host the all-day event “Kickstart Your Eco Life in Taiwan” on Saturday, April 24th, at Red Room Rendezvous. Join us for a full day of activities for people of all ages.

Beginning at noon, Taipei Filmmaker Nights will host a two-hour program of impactful short films, together with introductions from director’s and Q&A.

From 14:00 – 20:00 there will be a recycled, upcycled, or nature arts craft market on the front patio of Rendezvous. Interested vendors can contact Red Room; tables are available for a NT$500 refundable fee in exchange for 20% of sales donated to Red Room.

The afternoon – 14:30 – 17:30 will feature three simultaneous workshops – making wish sticks, making wax wraps, and a third, plant-focused workshop. More details on workshops is forthcoming.

The evening session (18:00 – 21:00) will feature our Art of Kua panel discussion. Panelists will include experts in eco housing, permaculture, zero-waste living, sustainability practices, and renewable energy.

Making a Wish Stick

Creative Upcycling Workshop

A wish stick is a decorated, elongated object that holds wishes or blessings that one wants to send to someone. In this workshop we will invite participants to make a wish stick for our Earth. We will work the written down wishes into the decoration of the stick and create an object d’art
Red Room will provide the sticks, fabric scraps, colours and other recyclable materials and tools.
Participants are encouraged to bring along recyclable objects, trinkets or ornaments they find suitable or meaningful for the creation of the wish stick.

Fee: 250NTD. includes all materials.
Time: 3-5pm
Age group: 8 years onwards

Goal: encourage the making of personalized gifts, promoting an alternative to short lived well wish cards.

Workshop facilitator: Patricia Kortmann.

Shengbang

A restless heart is never easy to be calmed, until the earth does it with miracles. Sheng Bang started his career playing with mud in 2018, but now he is one of the most passionate advocates for Taiwan’s natural building field and has led several workshops in southern Taiwan, specializing in cob. Having worked indifferent fields from tech engineer, piano teacher to natural builder, Sheng Bang has a way of integrating various elements tactfully into his work which leads to unique techniques and styles. With his great love of permaculture, he believes natural building is a solution to realize residence justice in Taiwan, as well as a friendlier sustainable future.
