Faloco

《Faloco》
From mountain, ocean, city and village we gather
With blood, memory and experience we converge
With song, dance, smile and youthful zeal we
With sweat and vigor, we cement Lumah’s foundation with our two hands
for future generations
to extract the wisdom of our ancestors
to acknowledge/abide by cultural norms
to nourish Faloco’s land with nourishment from Mother Earth
to preserve the eternal spirit of unity, responsibility and heritage
as millions of seed
ever-expanding

Faloco means heart in the language of the Amis. It is an important driving force to sustain life by way of extracting and delivering nutrients to vital organs. In the indigenous culture, it signifies an indispensable lifeline for cultural inheritance and continuation on life.
We have instilled the concept of Faloco within Fu Jen Catholic University’s campus, bringing all of the aboriginal students together. We hope this acts as a starting point from which we can uncover extremely valuable traditions embedded in those rapidly diminishing cultures. Not only do we learn by way of singing, it enables us to pass on nature’s wisdom left by our ancestors.
Therefore, bathed in ancient melodies sung by aborigines, we are able to feel the warmth of Mother Earth and nourishment from the Sun from which we grow and thrive. We also sing these ancient tunes to practice these overlooked cultures and pass them on to each individual enrolled at Fu Jen Catholic University year after year.

《About us》
We are aboriginal students at Fu Jen Catholic University. Our community is established by the aboriginal community resource center and incorporates ideologies of the Faloco tribe to harmonize group dynamics and enhance cohesion between different groups. We host an annual week-long celebration in the middle of May, with a banquet and engaging activities as aborigines and passionate associate enjoy a variety of musical, theatrical and dance performance. An annual graduation show at the end of May consists of traditional tribal dance performances. There are also elaborate performances during the anniversary party and the year-end party, courtesy of our amazing alumni.
For three years in a row, the aboriginal community resource center has organized a elite personnel training program. It is a platform for dedicated aboriginal students to enhance knowledge regarding their own cultures. Our curriculum includes various courses that take place throughout the school year, starting with lessons on handicraft and dance. Community service seminars provide practical training for students to give back to their communities when they return to their tribes during winter break. The second semester consists of cultural exchange in the Philippines during summer. There are also English courses, ethnic seminars and dance rehearsals. We hope to foster a greater sense of unity and intimacy among aborigines in Taiwan and Philippines an integrate them into one big family. Our mission originates from the belief that we arrive from different aboriginal tribes. Conventions and seminars exploring topics related to aborigines are conducted with vivid presentations that help more people familiarize with and care about present circumstances faced by aboriginal tribes.
Every member in our community has an integral role. We will not be able to successfully organize each event without the help of everyone. Thus, Faloco tribe not only motivates each member to communicate with each other as they encounter obstacles, it also provides a learning opportunity for them to interact in a sincere manner and operate efficiently within an organization, thereby sustaining the essence of the Faloco community.

Red Room Takes Flight, September 2015

rr flight iconsRed Room is moving from the Learning Kitchen to a brand new, amazing venue!

Six years ago, Red Room began with a dream shared over a cup of tea.  Co-founders Ping Chu and Ayesha Mehta both dreamed of creating a community that fosters creativity, friendship and innovation. Canmeng provided this dream with a home at Aveda Salon and over the past five years it has served to form unforgettable memories and bonds. The Red Room thrived under the care of its founders, volunteers and community members. Together we have nurtured Red Room and grown with it.

Now the Red Room has outgrown its home and the community is ready to take on new heights. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our community and the dedication of our volunteers, the Red Room has taken flight. With every change comes a new journey and many new opportunities with it. We are thrilled to announce a new destination for the Red Room. In the coming months, Red Room hopes to expand our community and welcome new artists and their ideas.

IMG_1165Welcome to the Red Room International Village at the Taiwan Air force Base (TAF) 空軍總部 「圖書館」LIBRARY!

On Saturday, September 19th the new and improved Red Room will launch with an extra special Stage Time & Wine.  Help us take off and make our pilot program great; bring a friend to the next Red Room Stage Time & Wine.
